2 things I need to say right off. First, these guys, GRR, play every Friday, for free (I don’t know what and if they get paid. I do know there is no cover so you get to see them for free) in Sweeney’s from 5-7. Whether you are ending your week, or starting your weekend, this is the way to do it. All you have to do is walk in and sit down, or stand and feel the groove. As an added bonus you can enjoy a delicious pint while you dig the set. The second thing is that I have been sitting on these tracks for a week. As an engineer I almost felt like I was cheating. I knew I was supposed to do something but the tracks sounded so good I couldn’t figure out exactly what I was supposed to do to them. I eventually found a bit of eq, verb, and dynamics that didn’t get in the way of the great vibe pouring off that stage.
When I said I was recording bluegrass I was quickly informed that there is no cajon in traditional bluegrass. There is a big nod to bluegrass in the Gypsy Rebel Rabble set, but that is just a jumping off point. And do you know what? They are really having a great time. It is an infectious party that you can’t help getting caught up it. But that’s enough from me. Let’s hear some music.
I will post up 2 of the tracks here. I am going to give the rest to the other parties involved and will let you know where to find them when they are posted.
